TRIAL IMPLEMENTATION OF AERODROME FLIGHT INFORMATION SERVICE (AFIS)

1  INTRODUCTION

1.1  In accordance with the Air Traffic Service Rationalisation Project, Lahad Datu Control Zone (CTR) shall be re-designated to Lahad Datu Flight Information Zone (FIZ).

1.2  This trial is to evaluate the transition of service by ATS Lahad Datu from Aerodrome Control Service to Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS).

2  IMPLEMENTATION

2.1  During the trial period, Aerodrome Flight Information Service (AFIS) shall be provided within Lahad Datu FIZ.

2.2  Aerodrome Control Service shall be withdrawn.

2.3  All aircraft operating within Lahad Datu FIZ shall be equipped with and maintain two-way radio communication.

2.4  Pilots shall maintain continuous listening watch on the designated frequency while operating within the Lahad Datu FIZ.

2.5  Pilots to maintain track within the lateral limits of the airway and to navigate in accordance with information given by AFISO. The minimum requirement is one radio compass.

2.6  Pilots shall report their position and intentions at all relevant points of the aerodrome traffic circuit, including downwind, base, and final.

2.7  Upon initial contact with Lahad Datu Information, or when entering the Lahad Datu FIZ, pilots shall provide relevant information, including aircraft identification, position, level, and intentions, to enhance situational awareness.

2.8  Advisory information will be provided in place of control instructions.

2.9  Pilots shall be responsible for the avoidance of collision with other aircraft and, based on their own observation and information provided by the AFIS unit, decide on the appropriate course of action. Pilots shall establish and maintain two-way radio communication and report their position, level, and intentions.
