1  INTRODUCTION

1.1 The Limbang Airport is currently undergoing an upgrade program. This includes the extension of the runway and runway strip, as well as the relocation of a portion of the service road and security fencing. Additionally, the project involves resurfacing the existing runway, taxiway, and apron, widening the apron to accommodate one new Code B aircraft parking bay, and constructing a new helicopter parking area with an associated connecting taxiway.

2  PURPOSE

2.1 This AIC informs the aviation industry about the work areas and the construction activities on the aircraft movement areas at Limbang Airport. These activities will result in temporary changes and restrictions to some parts of the movement area, including partial closures.
2.2 The upgrading program at Limbang Airport is estimated to take eighteen months to complete.

3  WORK AREAS AND TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF MOVEMENT AREAS

3.1 Earthworks activities are conducted across three main work areas. These works at Work Area 1, Work Area 2 and Work Area 3 are scheduled to take place from 4th September 2025 to 31st January 2026 EST. Following this period, there will be a surcharge period lasting nine months.
3.2 Please note that the dates provided are estimates. The specific dates and times will be communicated through NOTAMs that reference to this AIC.
  1. WORK AREA 1 – RUNWAY

3.3 Works at Work Area 1 are for the extension of the runway from the end of RWY 04 to the north, with consequential extension of the associated runway strip and the relocation of a portion of the service road and security fencing.
3.4 Works that involve the runway will be carried out in stages to minimize operational disruptions.
3.5 Movement area and facilities changes include withdrawal of the Simple Approach Lights for RWY 22, withdrawal of the Precision Approach Path Indicator for RWY 22 and revision to the runway declared distances.
  1. WORK AREA 2 - APRON

3.7 Movement area change includes the closure of Bay 3. No other movement area facility is affected.
  1. WORK AREA 3 - HELICOPTER PARKING AREA

3.8 Works at Work Area 3 are for the establishment of a new helicopter parking area to accommodate one EC225 or other smaller helicopters.

4.2 No part of the movement area or movement area facility is affected.

5  WORKING HOURS

5.1 All works, including rehabilitation of the runway, taxiway and apron, are to be conducted outside airport operational hours. Conduct of works is restricted between 1030 – 2230 UTC.

6  REGULATIONS ON MOVEMENT AREAS

6.1 Aircraft movement will not be permitted in closed portions of the apron and runway.
6.2 The issuance of instructions by Air Traffic Control to an aircraft does not relieve the pilot-in-command of the responsibility to maintain separation with other aircraft on the movement area or to comply with Air Traffic Control directions intended to regulate aircraft movement.
