  406 MHZ. DISTRESS BEACON REGISTRATION FOR AIRCRAFT

1  PURPOSE

1.1 The purpose of this AIC is to notify aircraft operators the need to register the carriage and use of Emergency Locator Transmitters (ELT) 406 MHZ. Register information regarding the ELT shall be made available to search and rescue authorities.

2  INTRODUCTION

2.1 In accordance to Annex 10, Volume III, Chapter 5, paragraph 5.1, from 1 January 2005, emergency locator transmitters shall operate on 406 MHZ. and 121.5 MHZ. simultaneously.
2.2 All installations of emergency locator transmitters operating on 406 MHZ. shall meet the provision of paragraph 5.3 of Annex 10, Volume III.

3  REGISTRATION

3.1 All Malaysian registered aircraft, civil or military, are required to register the carriage and use of its emergency locator transmitters with the Department of Civil Aviation Malaysia.
3.2 ELT register information shall include the following:

  1. transmitter identification (expressed in the form of an alphanumerical code of 15 hexadecimal characters);

  2. transmitter manufacturer, model and serial number;

  3. COSPAS-SARSAT type approved number;

  4. name, address and emergency telephone number of owner / operator;

  5. name, address and telephone number of other emergency contacts (two, if possible) to whom the owner / operator is known;

  6. aircraft manufacturer, type and registration marks;

  7. colour of aircraft

  8. colour of aircraft

  9. maximum POB.

3.3 Registration forms can be obtained from:
